McGruff

We had the incredible opportunity to give McGruff the Crime Dog a fresh new look. Known as everyone’s favorite detective dog, McGruff is back and better than ever in 3D.
Initially, we were asked to animate a few shots, but our passion for this iconic character drove us to go beyond and redesign McGruff to capture the essence of the beloved pup from our childhood.
The challenge
Reimagining McGruff in 3D presented several challenges. Translating a successful 2D design into a 3D model often leads to losing some of the character’s charm and personality. We aimed to preserve the iconic traits that made McGruff a memorable and beloved character while modernizing his look for a new generation. The task required thorough research and a deep understanding of what made McGruff special to ensure that his new design resonated with both nostalgic fans and new audiences.
The Solution
To tackle these challenges, we scoured old designs and dove deep into what made McGruff an iconic character. Our team focused on retaining his strength, toughness, and that undeniable good boy appeal. We collaborated with talented artists to bring McGruff to life in stunning 3D.
The result is a McGruff that feels both familiar and fresh, ready to capture the hearts of a new generation of kids. We’re proud to have played a part in reintroducing this P.I. Pooch to the world, thanks to the partnership with Green Buzz Agency and the National Crime Prevention Council. Now, let’s get out there and eat some crime!
